ECONOMIC IDEAL – Tehran, Nov 9, IRNA – From October 19 to November 7, Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) served as the hub of departure or arrival of a total of 906 flights that flew in or out of Iran to carry as many as 157,333 pilgrims, who travelled to or returned from Iraq for the purpose of participation in the ceremonies, marking Arbaeen (the 40th day after martyrdom anniversary of the third Imam of Shiia Hossein Ibn Ali (AS)).
Deputy Director of Imam Khomeini Airport Ali Rostami said that by end of the lunar month of Safar (November 8), Imam Khomeini International Airport served as the point for arrival or departure of flights that flew 78,777 people to Iraq and 79,356 others to Iran before and after the ceremony respectively.
He reported a 32% decrease in flight delays, adding that Mahan Airlines, Ata, Taban, Iran Air, Qeshm Air, Al-Iraqiyah, Kish Air, Zagros and Meraj airliners were in charge of transfer of Arbaeen pilgrims, conducting 164, 144, 137, 121, 114, 100, 72, 46, and eight sorties of such flights respectively.
