ECONOMIC IDEAL – Tehran (ISNA) – Special Trade and Financial Instrument (STFI) designed as Iran’s mechanism for Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) is due to be registered soon in Tehran, Governor of Iran’s Central Bank, Abdolnaser Hemmati announced.
Governor of Iran’s Central Bank stressed that registration of the Iranian financial instrument doesn’t mean that Iran will wait for operationalization of Europe’s mechanism. “We will pursue our strategy for financial supplement and trade in the condition of sanctions by special methods, especially through working with our neighboring countries and trade partners”.
The announcement comes after a visit to Iran by INSTEX president Per Fischer to work out details of the payment channel. “Through talks that my colleagues held with representatives of Germany, France and UK (the three European countries that have set up INSTEX with Iran) and the INSTEX director at the Central Bank of Iran, complete explanation about the Iranian mechanism similar to the European version of the mechanism was given and we are waiting for practical steps from Europe,” Hemmati added.
