TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee underlined that Iran and the Eurasia Economic Union will sign preferential tariffs agreement in Kazakhstan in May.
"According to the planned schedules, it is expected that Iran would sign preferential tariff agreement with Eurasia Economic Union in the next summit of Eurasian prime ministers in Kazakhstan in May,” Sanayee said on Thursday.
The Iranian ambassador, meantime, pointed to Russia’s move in vetoing the UK proposed resolution against Iran at UN Security Council, and described the act as a sign of quality improvement in Iran-Russia relations which has led to good trust, confidence and understanding between the two countries.
"Technical and military cooperation between Iran and Russia have existed from the past and the delivery of S-300 system to Iran was a turning point in military and defense interactions between the two countries,” Sanayee added.
In relevant remarks in April 2017, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced Tehran's readiness to boost economic and trade ties with Eurasian countries.
"There are now good capacities for reinforcing free trade between Iran and the five Eurasian states," President Rouhani said.
He underlined that Iran presently has good capacities for promotion of agricultural and industrial products and exporting them to the countries located in Northern Iran.
"We will make Iran corridors of North-South and East-West," the Iranian president said.
The Eurasian Economic Union is an economic union of states located primarily in northern Eurasia.
A treaty aiming for the establishment of the EEU was signed on 29 May 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and came into force on 1 January 2015.
The Eurasian Economic Union has an integrated single market of 183 million people and a gross domestic product of over $4 trillion.
The EEU introduces the free movement of goods, capital, services and people and provides for common transport, agriculture and energy policies, with provisions for a single currency and greater integration in the future.
The union operates through supranational and intergovernmental institutions.
