TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Senegalese counterpart Sidiki Kaba in a meeting in Dakar discussed expanding of mutual cooperation in different fields, specially in the trade and economic areas.
During the meeting in the Senegalese capital on Monday, Zarif and Kaba explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations between the two countries' private sectors.
"Iran and Senegal are determined to increase the volume of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries,” the Iranian foreign minister said during the meeting.
The Joint Economic Meeting of Iran and Senegal was held in Dakar on Monday in the presence of Zarif and the Senegalese Minister for Trade, Consumer Affairs as well as a host of trade and business activists and entrepreneurs from Iran and Senegal.
"Holding this meeting demonstrates that the two countries share the political determination for taking measures for presence, cooperation, and interaction of the private sectors of the two countries in economic and trade relations,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
In relevant remarks on Monday, Zarif voiced his country's readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations with African states, specially Senegal.
"The enhancement of bilateral ties in general, and economic relations in specific, with Senegal is on the agenda of my visit to this country," the Iranian foreign minister said upon his arrival at Senegal International Airport.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined Tehran's active role in Senegal’s automotive sector, and expressed the hope that the ground would be paved during the trip for Tehran to begin exporting non-oil products as well as technical and engineering services to the country.
The top Iranian diplomat arrived early Monday in Senegal as part of his four-nation tour, which will also take him to Namibia, Brazil and Uruguay.
Zarif last toured Africa in October 2017, visiting South Africa, Uganda, and Niger.
He also went on a six-leg Latin America tour a year earlier, traveling to Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, and Venezuela.
