TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- Iranian and Iraqi officials in a meeting in Erbil on Friday underlined the need for expanding mutual cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting in the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region today, Iran's Consul General in Erbil Morteza Ebadi and Senior Advisor to Iraqi Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Dindar Zebari explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations.
Ebadi pointed to the long-lasting relations between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region in the past and called for enhancement of relations.
Zebari, for his part, appreciated Iran's help for the Iraqi Kurdistan Region during difficult times.
In a relevant development in January, Iraqi Kurdistan's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani declared his recent visit to Iran a success, and said that both sides had fruitful discussions on a wide range of issues.
"My meetings with the Iranian officials were very fruitful," Barzani told reporters in Erbil upon his return from the visit to Iran.
He also insisted that no terrorist group can use the Iraqi Kurdistan Region's territory as a base to attack neighboring countries.
Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani with his accompanying delegation visited Tehran in late January.
During his visit, the Kurdish delegation held meetings with high-ranking Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
