TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- High-ranking Iranian and Tajik officials in a meeting in Dushanbe on Tuesday underlined the necessity for the further development of economic and energy cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was held between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues.
They also underlined developing cooperation in political, economic, cultural, energy and technology fields.
Zarif also held a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rasit Meredow in Dushanbe on Tuesday.
Following up the agreements signed by the two countries during President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to Turkmenistan and regional issues were among the topics discussed during the meeting.
Zarif is in Tajikistan to attend a ministerial meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Addressing the conference, he warned of the threats posed by the extremist and terrorist groups to the ECO member-states.
"Violent extremism continues to represent a threat to the ECO region," Zarif said.
The Iranian foreign minister reiterated that the mutually reinforcing foreign intervention and terrorism and extremism have destabilized many parts of our wider region for close to two decades, and said, "Geopolitics of the region that we share has become ever more complicated mostly due to uncertainties and persistent challenges triggered by systemic transitional fluidity since the 1990s."
