Tehran (ecoideal) – Iran’s deputy Oil Minister in Gas Affairs Hamid Reza Araqi announced that the city of Basra in Iraq is ready to import gas from Iran, which will be realized after paying for gas.
"Basra is ready to receive Iranian gas, but no gas has been exported to the city yet," Araqi said about the implementation of the second phase of gas exports to Iraq.
Stressing that Iraq should first pay the gas and then Iran will export it to Basra, he added, "As the capital of Iraq, Baghdad should decide the issue and now it is trying to solve the financial and budgetary issues to import the gas".
"One of the reasons for the delay in exporting gas from Iran to Basra was the gas pipelines in the Basra territory that were not ready, but now these pipelines are being built and all the conditions for receiving Iranian gas in Basra were provided,” Mr. Araqi stated.
Referring to the preparation of gas measurement systems in the Basra pipelines, he said, "The export of gas from Iran to Basra will begin in an official ceremony".
The agreement between Iran and Iraq to export gas to the two power plants in Baghdad and Basra has been signed, the first phase of which began in May 2017 by exporting gas from the Naftshahr terminal to the Baghdad power station and the process has continued uninterrupted until now.
