TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- Head of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim hailed the growing trend of relations between Baghdad and Tehran, reminding the valuable assistance rendered to his country by the Islamic Republic in the war on terrorist groups.
"Iran and Iraq, in addition to trade relations, have profound historical and cultural ties," Hakim said.
He underlined that his country will not remain indifferent towards economic sanctions against Iran.
Hakim called on the US to pay heed to the far-reaching consequences of its anti-Iran measures for Iraq.
"We reject imposing brutal economic sanctions against nations and we are not going to allow the interests of our country to be put under risk," he added.
In relevant remarks earlier in August, Ammar al-Hakim deplored the US unilateral sanctions against Iran.
"We believe that weakening Iran will neither benefit Iraq nor any of the regional states which intend to impose economic siege on the country, as the aftershocks of this measure will not be limited to Iran and will affect the entire region," Hakim said.
