TEHRAN (ecoideal)- Iranian Economy Minister Massoud Karbasian was removed from office after he failed to secure a vote of confidence during an impeachment process at the parliament on Sunday.
Karbasian lost the vote of confidence by 137 votes to 121, with two abstentions, to become the second minister in President Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet to be impeached this month.
He was criticized for mismanagement of economic situation of the country in the past year, specially after the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal and sanctions, high inflation rate and weakened national currency.
At a parliamentary session in Tehran earlier this month 129 lawmakers voted for Iranian Minister of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei to leave the cabinet, 111 for him to remain in office and 3 abstained.
He was facing criticism for his alleged mismanagement of the country’s high unemployment rate.
