ECONOMIC IDEAL – Abadan, Oct 13, IRNA – Director for trade development department of Arvand Free Zone Organization (AFZO) Mohammad Nezarat said on Saturday that trade terminal of Shalamche border point was declared close by Iraq for now.
Nezarat in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said that from the Iranian side there is no problem for export, but Iraq has not enough infrastructures for this end during Arba'ein period, so it has closed its border.
He added that AFZO is consulting and preparing a number of needed items of Iraq in this border to resume trade exchanges from this point again.
In order to facilitate trade affairs with Iraq, the organization created a separate route for passage of Arba'ein pilgrims in Shalamche border and is now equipping some infrastructures in Iraqi customs office side, Nezarat said.
Iranian officials had already announced that trade activities would not be ceased in Arba'ein period of time.
Halting trade activities in Shalamche border point caused damages for owners of goods and trucks in this international border point.
Averagely, 600 trucks carrying vegetables, fruits, food and dairy products pass the border into Iraq daily.
The border customs office has capacity for clearing 1,000 trucks containing export commodities each day.
Shalamche border point is located 15-kilometer from Khorramshahr and 25 kilometers from Basra in Iraq.
Shalamche and Chazzabe are two border passing points for Arba'ein pilgrims in Khuzestan province.
