ECONOMIC IDEAL – Tehran, Oct 23, IRNA — Export of handicrafts in the first six months of this Iranian calendar year (started on March 21) earned the country more than $107 million, showing an increase of 9.5% compared to the figure in the same period the previous year.
Deputy Head of the Handicrafts Organization of Iran Pouya Mahmoudian made the remarks at a conference, held in commemoration of the activists and top performances of the 30th national handicraft exhibition, on Tuesday.
The official outlined the facilities provided for the exporters and said a letter had been sent to the first vice president in which it was requested that the country's handicraft exporters be exempted from the obligation to return the foreign exchange earned from their exports to NIMA online forex system.
“From the beginning of the year until the end of September, we held 11 national, regional and provincial exhibitions that were well received,” he said.
He emphasized, “Since the beginning of the year, we have launched five permanent handicrafts markets, because we believe that the more people reach the level of access to handicrafts, the problem of sales will be resolved and people will be more satisfied.”
Ali Asghar Monsan, Vice-President and Head of the Organization for the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism, said, “The current situation has created problems for different sectors, but with the support of the government, we have tried to protect the handicraft sector against the turbulences and pave the way for the sector with the help of the government.
He continued, “Such meetings can be continued seasonally and periodically so that during these meetings, while hearing the talks of the artistic craftsmen, we can follow the direction of the artistic movement.’
Monesan said, ‘All sectors of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization will be alongside you, and we hope we can achieve a $ two billion worth of handicraft exports per year.’
