ECONOMIC IDEAL – Tehran, Nov 22, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and his Italian counterpart Moavero Milanesi in Rome late on Thursday discussed latest developments in connection with the JCPOA and the EU special mechanism for preserving the deal after the US' unilateral and unlawful exit from it.
During the meeting, both sides hailed historic and growing bilateral ties, while underlining their political resolve to promote ties in the political, economic and cultural spheres.
Zarif said the US violated not only the JCPOA but also the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2231, as it currently encourages others to breach it and threatens those wishing to uphold it.
Italian foreign minister, for his part, described the JCPOA as a deal, helping promote international peace and security, underlining his country’s all-out efforts to help salvage the international accord along with other EU members.
Enhancement of economic and cultural cooperation, especially in the field of tourism, scientific cooperation, regional developments, Yemen catastrophic situation as well as Libyan developments were among other issues discussed during the top-ranking officials' talks.
Zarif arrived in Rome late Wednesday to take part in the annual International Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (IMED).
Zarif, who is visiting Italy upon an official invitation of the country's foreign minister, is to deliver a speech during the IMED this evening.
Representatives from 56 countries are participating in the conference.
