ECONOMIC IDEAL – Baghdad, Jan 10, IRNA – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh and his Iraqi counterpart Thamir Ghadhban on Thursday emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation, with a focus on energy.
Heading a delegation, Zangeneh arrived in Baghdad for an official visit to the neighboring country, Iraq.
Having been received by his Iraqi counterpart at Baghdad Airport, Zangeneh told reporters that the two countries had a lot in common to build on.
He also expressed hope that the visit and imminent talks with Iraqi officials would be conducive to good results.
Echoing Zangeneh's view on ample commonalities between Iraqi and Iranian nations, Ghadhban, for his part, said the two countries can make use of the common grounds to boost the two-way relations.
The two ministers said that OPEC-related coordination issues will be discussed during the visit.
Meeting with Iraqi Minister of Electricity Luay al-Khatteeb, and the country's Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi, as well as the Prime Minister Barham Salih are on the itinerary of the Iranian oil minister in his visit to Baghdad.
Iran is currently exporting electricity to Iraq. Besides, the Iranian gas exports to Iraq stands at 15 million cubic meters a day that will be increased to some 40 million cubic meters a day when all export plans are implemented.
