ECONOMIC IDEAL – Bandar Abbas, Feb 19, IRNA- More than a million and a half TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) of containers have been transshipped in Iran’s southern Shahid Rajai Port in the Persian Gulf.
The containers include exported and imported products that were shipped to other ports in the region, said Director of Ports and Maritime Organisation of southern Hormozgan Province, Allah Morad Afifi.
Shahid Rajai Port, located 23 kilometers west of the Bandar Abbas, is considered the largest and most advanced container port of Iran with a capacity of 5.8 million teu of containers per year, according to the official. It can handle 80% of all containers in Iranian ports. More than 50% of the country’s exports and imports as well as 70% of foreign goods are transited through this port.
