ECONOMIC IDEAL – Yazd, Feb 26, IRNA- One hundred thousand foreign tourists visited the ancient central Iranian city of Yazd during the past 11 months, an official said on Tuesday.
“One hundred thousand foreigners visited Yazd since the start of the current Iranian calendar year (21 March, 2018),” said Mostafa Fatemi, local head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran.
The Grand Mosque, Zoroastrians’ Fire Temple and their graveyard, also known as Dakhme, are the most visited historical sites, according to Fatemi.
He expressed hope the number could rise to 115,000 until the end of the current Iranian calendar year (20 March, 2019).
Last year, 130,000 tourists travelled to Yazd, the local official said, saying the US withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal has taken its toll on local tourism sector.
