TEHRAN (ecoideal)- Governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif and his Croatian counterpart Boris Vujčić in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for expanding banking cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting in the Iranian capital on Friday, Seif and Vujčić explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating economic and trade relations, specially between the two countries' central banks.
"Croatia enjoys a favorable banking system and Iran is therefore willing to launch suitable ties with Croatian banks in a bid to boost commercial and economic transactions between the two sides,” Seif said during the meeting.
The senior Iranian official underlined that banking relations are prerequisite to boosting economic cooperation, and said, "Given their eagerness to tighten relations, banks of Iran and Europe can conduct joint venture, open branches or establish representative offices.”
Vujčić, for his part, said that the largest bank of Croatia was willing to bolster cooperation with Iranian counterparts.
He reiterated that the two sides had a positive record of cooperation in the course of history though trade and economic ties were not at a satisfactory level and required further improvement.
Vujčić stressed that Croatia’s Central Bank would continue encouraging local banks to forge stronger relations with Iranian counterpart.
In relevant remarks in late May, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in a meeting in Tehran underlined the necessity for further broadening of bilateral trade and economic relations.
"Iran and Croatia should use all the possibilities provided by the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers to widen the prospect of their economic cooperation," Larijani said.
The Iranian parliament speaker underscored that the time is now ripe for Iran and Croatia to enhance the level of their economic relations.
"The two countries should exploit all potentials to enhance economic and trade ties," Larijani said.
Kitarovic, for her part, expressed the hope that the two countries could establish good ties in economic and cultural spheres, and added, "Croatia has good experience in railroad development, shipbuilding, energy, food industries, transportation and tourism."
