TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- The secretariat of the South-West Trade Rail Corridor will be established in Tehran soon.
The decision was approved by the South-West Trade Rail Corridor's member-states in the city of Odessa, Ukraine.
The South-West Trade Rail Corridor's member-states comprise of Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Poland.
The officials of the Department of International Affairs of Iranian Railways said that the five parties achieved common consent on creation of the mentioned corridor and its general guidelines in the session.
In a relevant development in August, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani underlined that his country's Herat province can become a hub for regional transit via Khaf-Herat and China-Haritan railways.
"One million tons of cement will be imported to Afghanistan from Iran via Khaf-Herat railroad at the first stage," the Afghan president said while visiting Herat province.
He pointed to the railway network from the Eastern region of Khaf in Iran to western Herat province of Afghanistan as well as the China railway to Hairtan port located in North of the landlocked country, and said, "The region will witness economic boom."
Iranian and Afghan nations enjoy lots of historical and cultural commonalities. The two countries have high-level political and economic ties.
Afghanistan has been main export destination for Iranian commodities and products for several years.
