TEHRAN (ecoideal)- Iran is due to construct a refinery in Syria, using the specialized know-how of Iranian experts, an official said on Tuesday.
"We will implement a plan to launch a refinery in Syria," Head of the Research Institute of the Petroleum Industry (RIPI)'s center for research and development of downstream technologies Akbar Zamanian said on Tuesday.
Noting that the refinery will be built with the production capacity of 140,000 barrels of oil, he said that the refinery's output in the first phase will be 70,000 barrels on a daily basis.
Zamanian added that the Syrian crude and light and heavy oil will be used as raw materials in the refinery.
In relevant remarks earlier this month, Caretaker of the Iranian Energy Ministry Sattar Mahmoudi announced that Tehran and Damascus have inked several agreements to reconstruct Syria's power lines and power plants.
"Most of these contracts are related to the reconstruction of electricity equipment, power plants and transmission lines so that we can provide better services to the Syrian clients," Mahmoudi said after a meeting with Syria's Electricity Minister Zahir Kharboutli.
Kharboutli, for his part, underscored the Iranian companies' good capabilities for providing power plant systems and equipment, and expressed the hope that these capabilities would be used for the reconstruction of his country.
Also, in August, Syrian Industry Minister Ahmad al-Hamou underlined that the enemies who have supported the terrorist groups in the Arab country will play no role in reconstruction efforts in Syria, welcoming the partnership of friendly states, specially Iran, in this regard.
"We don’t allow the enemies and the countries which have hatched plots (against the country) to participate in Syria's reconstruction and they will play no role," al-Hamou said after visiting the Iranian companies' booths in the 59th International Fair of Damascus.
He, meantime, underscored that "the friendly states and allies will accompany Syria in reconstruction stage as they helped Syria to attain victory against terrorism".
"The friendly states will be prioritized in cooperation during the reconstruction time and all necessary possibilities will be provided to them," al-Hamou said.
