TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani lauded the long-standing relations between Tehran and Baku, and said that the two countries will develop their friendship.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is steadfast in its friendship with Azerbaijan Republic and will stand alongside its friends forever as it is on the right track now," Larijani said in a meeting with Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov on Sunday.
The Iranian parliament speaker expressed the hope that the Caspian Sea will serve as a ground for peace, calmness and extensive cooperation.
"Numerous cultural commonalities between the two countries make it necessary to promote bilateral economic and political relations," he added.
Larijani said that regional status quo and insecurities in it have promoted us to boost political and security relations to be able to contribute to the establishment of peace and stability in the region.
He referred to the need for further collaboration in the oil sector in the Caspian Sea region, and said that suitable dialogues have been made between the Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents hoping that the waterway will serve as a ground for peace, stability and further cooperation.
Talibov, for his part, said that the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a state within the framework of Azerbaijan and has its own parliament and seven representatives from the autonomous republic are elected to the national assembly.
Iran-Azerbaijan relations are based on friendship and brotherhood and this friendship would last forever, he added.
"Exchange of visits of large numbers of tourists from both countries reveals the two nations’ proximity," Talibov said.
He also stressed the need for promoting economic and trade ties between the two capitals.
In relevant remarks in August 2016, Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in a meeting in Baku underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting in the Azeri capital, Vaezi and President Aliyev explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating of bilateral relations in different areas.
Vaezi appreciated President Aliyev's role in enhancement of the two countries' bilateral ties, and said that the two countries' presidents are determined to boost the level of their cooperation in different fields.
The Azeri president, for his part, hailed Vaezi's role in expanding ties between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed political and economic ties between the two countries and cooperation in the Caspian Sea, and exchanged views about the prospects of relations in energy, transport, investment, finance, banking, agricultural, tourism and healthcare.
