TEHRAN (ecoideal)- Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj voiced her satisfaction in the trend of broadening relations between New Delhi and Tehran, and said the two countries' cooperation dates back to centuries ago.
"My country’s friendly relations with Iran were increasingly growing and expanding," Swaraj said on Saturday.
She pointed to her recent visit to Iran and the country's Southern port of Chabahar, and said, "My short visit to Iran was very good and useful."
The Indian external affairs minister traveled to Tehran on December 2 to meet with her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
During her stay in Tehran, she mulled over development of bilateral relations and various regional issues.
The Indian foreign minister's recent visit to Iran was made on occasion of inauguration of Chabahr Port Phase 1 with participation of India.
In relevant remarks in May, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined the need for the removal of obstacles in the way of Tehran-New Delhi cooperation in the banking sector.
"I am hopeful that Iran and India will broaden their relations in the economic field, specially banking and trade relations," Zarif said in a meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Tehran.
The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the status quo of Iran-India relations, and said, "The two countries have a lot of common grounds to enhance mutual cooperation in different fields, trade and energy in particular."
Jaishankar, for his part, said that prospects of India relations with Iran are promising.
He described his meetings with senior Iranian officials, Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh in particular, as positive in energy cooperation.
He also underlined mutual collaboration in the arenas of transit and North-South international corridor.
