TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- Iraqi Deputy Commerce Minister Walid Habib al-Mousavi declared that security has been restored to his country, and said that Iranian investors and companies are welcome to aid Iraq in its reconstruction projects.
"Iran supported Iraq in the fight against ISIL more than any other county in the world," al-Mousavi said addressing the 7th session of Iran-Iraq Development of Economic Cooperation in Mashhad, Northeastern Iran, on Thursday.
Al-Mousavi called on the Iranian investors and companies to participate in Iraq’s reconstruction projects.
He noted that the volume of annual trade transactions between Iran and Iraq stands at $6 billion, and said that the volume has remained the same for the past three years.
"Iran and Iraq should prioritize joint investment and projects, specially in the technical and engineering services, establishment of joint free trade and industrial zones, easing transfer of properties and commodities between the two countries’ businessmen and investors, as well as activating joint chambers of commerce between the two countries," al-Mousavi said.
He also added that obstacles facing banking transactions for Iranian exporters in Iraq have been removed.
In relevant remarks last month, Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri in a meeting in Baghdad underlined the need for the expansion of bilateral ties in different fields.
During the meeting in the Iraqi capital, Masjedi and al-Jabouri explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation in different political and security fields.
The two sides also discussed the latest political developments in the region.
Holding a meeting of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states (PUIC) in Tehran was among the issues raised during the meeting.
Al-Jabouri said that reconstruction of the cities liberated from the ISIL terrorist group and repatriation of refugees in the shortest possible time are major problems facing his country.
He also underlined cooperation among regional states in a coordinated fight against terrorist groups.
Masjedi, for his part, voiced Iran’s readiness to help Iraq and cooperate in various sectors.
The meeting of PUIC was hosted by the Iranian parliament in Tehran and it slated for January 16-17.
